FaMED and Chamber FSP: Compare the Actual Requirements

FaMed is a Fachsprachenprüfung Medizin: a medical-language examination. The practical comparison is between the FaMed route and a particular medical chamber's FSP, not between a language exam and a different profession-wide qualification.

Start with the route your licensing authority accepts. Do not choose from a promise that one provider is easier, faster or guaranteed to pass you.

The current human-medicine FaMed format

There are three stations: doctor–patient communication with history and consent; doctor–doctor communication with two patient presentations; and the written anamnesis section from a video. The oral blocks are each 23 minutes including reading; writing is 22 minutes including video. Individual oral situations in the current practice test have an 11-minute maximum.

Oral order can vary. Writing is last. Cases may differ within and between stations. There is no separate vocabulary-translation task in this format.

What to compare with your chamber

Chamber procedures differ. This article does not claim that all chambers are subjective, test obscure medical trivia or have the same waiting time.

Recognition comes before purchase

The provider lists FaMed recognition in Bayern and Rheinland-Pfalz; the RLP authority explicitly lists FaMed. Check the current responsible authority and your qualification route. Other destinations may apply conditions, including qualification route or certificate submission with the initial application. The recognition article links the relevant sources and their limitations.

A passed language examination is one possible licensing requirement. It does not itself grant Approbation or an unrestricted right to work.

Prepare for the task you will actually take

Use the current practice test, then choose one speaking or writing skill to improve. SBAR and OPQRST can be useful practice frameworks, not mandatory scoring schemas. Start with a pain-history exercise or the written-task guide.
