In the human-medicine FaMed format, informed consent is one situation in the doctor–patient station. The current practice test allows at most 11 minutes for the situation; the paired oral block lasts 23 minutes including reading.
The necessary procedure information is supplied. Your job is to explain it clearly, respond to questions and check understanding. Medical knowledge is not separately assessed. A memorised procedure script must not override the assignment.
1. Establish the topic and purpose
Introduce yourself, check whom you are speaking with and state the planned procedure in everyday language. Do not assume this person is the patient from the preceding history task.
Wir sprechen heute über die geplante Untersuchung. Ich erkläre Ihnen den Anlass, den Ablauf, mögliche Risiken und was davor und danach wichtig ist. Welche Frage haben Sie zunächst?
Use the actual indication from the material. Do not invent urgency or say the procedure is compulsory.
2. Explain the sequence
Turn the supplied steps into a short, chronological explanation. Translate a technical term when needed. If a possible additional step is described, preserve that uncertainty rather than saying it will definitely happen.
For a language exercise: „Gewebeprobe“ can become „eine kleine Probe aus dem Gewebe, die anschließend untersucht wird“. Whether a sample is planned in a particular case must come from its information.
3. Communicate risks honestly
Explain the listed general and specific risks without minimising or exaggerating them. Use a numerical frequency only when supported by the task or a suitable current clinical source. This article does not provide a complete procedure-specific consent checklist.
A better language pattern is:
Ich verstehe Ihre Sorge. Ich erkläre Ihnen, welches Risiko hier beschrieben wird und welche Maßnahmen vorgesehen sind. Welche Information würde Ihnen bei der Entscheidung helfen?
4. Cover preparation and aftercare from the material
Explain the supplied instructions about eating, medication, activity or follow-up. Do not invent a universal fasting period, driving ban or bed-rest rule for every intervention. These depend on the actual procedure, sedation and clinical instructions.
5. Make room for questions and a decision
Ask the person to explain the key point in their own words. Respond to their concern, then return to the structure. Respect uncertainty or refusal; do not use a dramatic consequence that is not supported by the case.
