The Digital FaMED Exam: Tasks, Video Notes and Typing Practice

FaMed is a digital language examination taken at a test centre. It is not a remote exam you take from home. The provider's current FAQ lists Mainz, Kassel and Nürnberg; your confirmation supplies your appointment details.

Understand the three stations

The current practice test allows at most 11 minutes per oral situation. Do not confuse a situation with a whole paired station. Oral order can vary; writing is last, with one-minute station breaks. The cases need not follow one continuous patient story.

The published block durations do not establish a specific 30-second preparation screen or an exact reading-time subdivision.

Prepare for the written video task

The current practice test permits pausing and moving forward or backward through the video. Take factual notes, check uncertain names, times and negations, then write the anamnesis section in complete sentences. Do not add an invented examination, diagnosis or treatment plan.

Our written-task guide shows how to move from a source statement to a sentence. SOAP may be useful in other clinical documentation contexts, but it is not the required format of this FaMed task.

Practise typing and clear audio

Practise German spelling, umlauts, punctuation and medical terms on a keyboard. Familiarity with a German layout can help; the exact equipment and instructions for your appointment come from the centre.

For speaking practice, make a test recording on your own device and listen for intelligibility. There is no requirement to adopt a particular pitch or a baritone voice.

In a timed writing practice, divide your available time between viewing, checking notes, composing and proofreading. Adjust those shares to the video and your typing speed. The overall official limit is not a universal minute-by-minute training script.
