After an Unsuccessful FaMED Attempt: Feedback and a Practical Retake Plan

An unsuccessful language-exam result can be discouraging. Start with the result and feedback available for the specific examination you took. FaMed and a chamber FSP may have different procedures.

1. Use the provider's feedback route

FaMed's current results page offers a free, binding 15-minute feedback video appointment after an unsuccessful attempt. It describes a further appointment as possible no earlier than six months after the preceding feedback session. Check the booking details directly with the provider.

If you have a formal decision with review or appeal instructions, read those instructions promptly. This blog does not establish an appeal deadline or guarantee a particular legal entitlement to records.

A neutral request could be:

Ich habe am [Datum] an der FaMed teilgenommen. Ich möchte das angebotene Nachgespräch nutzen. Bitte teilen Sie mir mit, wie ich einen Termin vereinbaren und welche Unterlagen ich dazu bereithalten kann.

2. Translate feedback into one observable goal

Examples: ask a clearer follow-up, keep two case presentations separate, preserve a negation from the video or explain a term in everyday language. Use actual feedback rather than guessing why a whole population fails.

Each of the three FaMed stations requires at least 60%. Do not prepare on the assumption that a strong result in one can compensate for another below the limit.

3. Practise the current tasks

• History and informed consent share a 23-minute oral block including reading.
• Two patient presentations share another 23-minute block including reading.
• The written task is a 22-minute anamnesis section from a video, including viewing time.
• The current practice test sets an 11-minute maximum for each oral situation.

Use the written-task guide rather than the former recommendation to write a full SOAP plan. Mnemonics should help you select relevant information, not force a fixed checklist into every conversation.

4. Plan the next weeks around evidence

Choose a schedule you can sustain. Review one attempt, work on one identified weakness, repeat the task, then compare the versions. Add full practice runs once individual skills are more reliable. Our six-week plan is adaptable; six weeks is not a promise of readiness.
